Aims and Objectives of the Band
The name of the group is known as South Tyneside Pipes & Drums.
The bands activities shall benefit the people of South Tyneside.
Objects of the band.
(a)To promote the skills of playing the highland bagpipes
(b) To promote the skills of playing the drums to accompany the bagpipes.
(c) To improve the community spirit in South Tyneside by providing opportunities
for collective acts of remembrance.
(d) To improve relationships between young and older residents of South
Tyneside.
(e) To do all of the above in a spirit of friendship, co-operation and mutual
respect.
Membership
Membership shall be open to all members of South Tyneside Pipes & Drums who
support the bands objects and have paid the appropriate subscription laid down
from time to time by the officers.
Membership is open to all ages and sexes.
The band meets twice weekly at St Peters Church, York Avenue Jarrow on a
Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, and a Friday Evening from 7:00 pm -
9:00pm.
Membership is open to all persons wishing to learn the bagpipes or drums.
Accomplished pipers and drummers are more than welcome to come along and join.
Although we are not a competition band we have the experience of Pipe Major Jim
Macbeth and Drum Major Harold Dunn (ex Black Watch)
Parents who have concerns about their sons and daughters joining are more than
welcome to come along and see the layout of the band for themselves.
